Iwashiguri
It's now birthing season for the okitanago (a surfperch)!
Okitanago are fish that raise their young inside their bellies and then give birth.
That period lasts about 5 to 6 months.
Each belly apparently holds 10 to 20 young.
Last week their bellies were swollen tight,
so we were hoping they'd give birth any day now?! But
it seems they had already finished, and tiny okitanago were swimming in big clusters in the shallows.
It's a shame we couldn't see the birth itself, but
there were juveniles everywhere, and it was a fun dive!
Right now, Yabiki and Kana are out running a night dive. I can't wait to hear what creatures they found!
Today's dive sites: Ogi
