April 24: Kitakoura (Akaiwa and Hamadaoki)

Staff blog | Published: | Written by Hiroyuki Koide (Sado Shop Manager)

Diving at Sado Island: April 24: Kitakoura (Akaiwa and Hamadaoki), photo 1

Hello, this is Koide from Freeway's Sado shop!

We've had wonderful weather for the past few days!

The tulips at Kitakoura are full of life too!

The cherry tree at the Benten shrine is at its peak right now!

This cherry tree is apparently 30 years old.

Just a little younger than me.

The sea is gradually turning its summer color.

Though visibility still has a way to go (haha).

Dive 1 was at Akaiwa.

A kurosoi (a rockfish) about 30 cm long welcomed us.

It didn't move at all, even when we got close.

It makes you worry whether it's alive (yikes).

This is a nijikajika (a sculpin).

And this is a mizudako (North Pacific giant octopus) that has stayed in the same spot for the past few days.

It's really huge!

Scattered around it were the remains of kijihata (red spotted grouper).

Probably the mizudako attacked and ate them during the night.

How frightening, how frightening.

Dive 2 was at Hamadaoki!

It's a rare site we recommend for this season.

Macro here is so much fun!
