Diving at Sado Island: July 1: Kitakoura (That Current...), photo 1

Hello, this is Chika from Freeway!

Today Koide used the OM-1 trial unit!

(Ring light only, no strobe)

■ Nishikihaze (a goby), mouth wide open!

Like yesterday's jawfish, fish with their mouths open are so cute!

Fish have expressions and individual differences too, so I want to capture each moment.

■ Juvenile sabihaze (a goby)

At sandy sites, juvenile sabihaze are increasing.

It's a fish I'd love you to shoot against a blue background, or in a soft, cute style.

As expected of Koide! The fish look so cute in the photos...

Every day I tell myself, “I'll work hard at photography too!” Haha

I've always used a compact camera until now, so I really don't get it unless I study. Haha

As for my team, we dived at Kitakoura!

From Sato, the cameraman from the underwater video team, who had dived ahead of us...

we heard that “Akaiwa has a raging current and no kobudai (Asian sheepshead wrasse),” so we avoided the raging current and did our first dive in the shallows off Hamada.

There was a little current, but it was a relaxed dive searching for marine life in the shallows!

■ A hebiginpo (a triplefin) seen from the front, so cute!

Shooting from different angles is nice too!

■ Rare for this time of year! A sakura mino umiushi (a nudibranch)!

It's the first time I've seen one at this time of year. I was surprised.

Then for the second dive, to Akaiwa and its raging current

The current was probably better than in the morning, which was a relief, but...

there was still current 🥲

We descended along the descent line, hid behind rocks to avoid the current, and watched the kobudai!

There were more kobudai, both females and males, than we've seen in a while, and we even got to see a fight!

Despite the current, I'm glad it was a fun dive.

We'll dive safely tomorrow too.

■ A seahorse with a round belly

I'm glad we found it even in the current.

■ Inaba mino umiushi (a nudibranch)

Small, but beautiful

◾️ The battle between No.2 on the left and Yamato on the right

We were lucky to see it!
