February 5: Kitakoura (Nagate) and Mushizaki (Hyogozaki)

February 5: Kitakoura (Nagate) and Mushizaki (Hyogozaki), photo 1

Thanks for stopping by, this is Koide from Freeway.

Today we ran 1 shore dive and 1 boat dive at Mushizaki and Kitakoura!

To Mushizaki (beyond Hyogozaki)

Today again, we headed to the deep side of Hyogozaki.

The depth was 31m. Unfortunately it was raining, but the visibility was good and it was bright underwater!

On the rocks, two large hirame (olive flounder) were resting side by side, and they didn't budge at all even when we got close. The photo below was taken by one of our guests. They got as close as about 3cm from the lens! Shooting up close gives you nice, clear photos.

The murasaki hanaginchaku (purple tube anemones) were vividly colored too.

It looks like flowers blooming in a blue underwater world.

We found a matsukasauo (pinecone fish) at 29m! A BIG one, about 10cm! Its color is fading, but it barely moves, so it's easy to photograph.

We're hoping it settles in here for a while!

In the shallows, the beds of nagamo (a long Sargassum seaweed) that are growing taller were really beautiful. A dreamy world you only get in winter.

They'll keep growing even longer!

To Kitakoura (Nagate)

We dove at Nagate for the first time in about 2 months.

The nudibranchs are increasing!

Today we found 14 species in a 50 minute dive.

Nudibranch hunting is getting really fun this time of year!

Besides nudibranchs, other beautiful creatures grow in clusters on the rock face.

When you photograph them up close, the beauty of the details really stands out.
