On Sunday, August 16, we held our “Under 20 Dives” meetup at Kitakoura.
Three people joined, all men, so it was a guys' festival all day (lol).
Two of them were on their first fun dive and their first boat dive.
With nerves running especially high…… we made our first entry at the Artificial Reef!
It's a flat site, perfect for getting your feel for diving back.
Fish were plentiful, with chagara (a small goby), damselfish, and isaki (chicken grunt) schooling everywhere in the mid water.
The balls of mebaru (Japanese rockfish) are also forming up nicely.
Once everyone had their diving feel back, we headed to Akaiwa for the second dive!
If you come to Kitakoura, you have to go meet the kobudai (Asian sheepshead wrasse)!
Kojiro gave us lots of attention, and a school of horse mackerel had come in too.
The common octopus have started brooding their eggs, and we can feel the season moving on.
There was a little swell at the surface, but once we descended there was no current or surge, and we enjoyed calm dives.
Even on your first fun dive and first boat dive, you can see this much: that's Kitakoura in summer.
