February 20: Ogi (Ryuodo and Jizo), photo 1

Hello, this is Koide from Freeway!

The weather was good, so we used the boat at Ogi for the first time in 2 months!

We headed straight to Kofuku Jizo.

Visibility 20 m!

Wonderful sea conditions before the spring murk sets in.

The descent line had been torn away by the winter storms and is gone, so please be careful (yikes).

At this time of year there are often nudibranchs in the clay pipes at Jizo, so we went to check them again this time.

Sakura minoumiushi, emura minoumiushi and emura minoumiushi everywhere!

It's like flowers blooming underwater!

We're now heading into the season of spring murk, but

lots of nudibranchs show up in the nutrient rich water!

It's an irresistible season for nudibranch lovers!

The weather during the dive was sunny!

Everyone's power to bring sunshine was in full force.

For the other dive, we went to a shore site.

Light streamed in, and together with the great visibility, the underwater world was shining.

Though photos don't convey it at all....

Nezumi umiushi

A nudibranch usually seen at night, but lately it has been staying still in the same spot.

Kuroshitanashi umiushi

A guest found it at a depth of around 1 m.

Kudayagara (tubesnout)

In spring they lay their eggs inside maboya (sea pineapples).

They swim quietly in schools among the seaweed.

Their look is so typical of the Sea of Japan, with a real sense of Japanese elegance.

They flee as soon as you chase them, so you need to approach slowly and patiently!

Naminohana, meaning “flower of the waves” (surf sardine)

What a lovely name!

They school in shallow places such as tide pools.

Right after entry you'll find them swimming at the surface, so look carefully and don't miss them!

They sparkle and shine!

Large mizudako (North Pacific giant octopus) are also very active right now.

Thank you to all the guests who joined us today!
